PURPOSE: A method of detecting a tilt of an optical disc is provided to detect a voltage applied to a focus actuator so as to easily detect the tilt of the optical disc and to compensate the tilt. CONSTITUTION: A low pass filter(21) detects a voltage used for driving an actuator and low-pass-filters the voltage to output a disc height signal. A differentiator(22) detects a variation in the disc height signal and converts the variation into a tangential tilt angle of an optical disc. A pick-up position detector(23) detects the position of a pick-up in the initial operation after the optical disc is inserted. A radial tilt detector(24) stores a disc height signal at the pick-up position detected by the pick-up position detector, and acquires a difference between the stored disc height signals to calculate a radio tilt angle.
