The invention relates to a method for increasing the hardness and resistance to wear of parts, particularly of semi-finished goods made of austenitic nickel alloys. To this end, the parts, particularly the semi-finished goods, are subjected, in the area of their edge layers located near the surface and at least partially within a predeterminable temperature range, to a gas oxynitration in nitration mixtures consisting of ammonia and/or nitrogen and/or hydrogen and/or oxygen.
