PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment dispersion comprising a pigment having a small average particle size and excellent in delivering stability and in color tone, and an ink for ink jet. SOLUTION: The pigment dispersion comprises at least a pigment, a dispersant and water, where at least one compound of general formula 1 (wherein R<1> is H, a 1-20C alkyl group, a phenyl group, a substituted phenyl group or a naphthyl group; k is an integer of 0-7; A<1> and A<2> are each an oxyethylene unit, an oxypropylene unit or a mixture of an oxyethylene unit with an oxypropylene unit; i and j are each an integer and i+j=31-100; M<1> is H, Li, Na, K or N<+> R<2> R<3> R<4> R<5> (wherein R<2> to R<5> are each either of a hydrogen element, a methyl group, an ethyl group, a 2-hydroxyethyl group and a 3- hydroxypropyl group); and (p and q are each an integer and p+q=3) is employed as the dispersant. |
