1365479 Plasticized vinyl acetate polymers CIBA-GEIGY AG 27 Oct 1971 [27 Oct 1970] 50906/70 Headings C3P and C3R Compositions comprise (1) a vinyl acetate polymer or copolymer containing a major proportion of vinyl acetate units and (2) 10 to 100% by weight of (1) of a polyester of average molecular weight 250 to 3000 derived from a C 4-10 dibasic acid or anhydride, a mono-, di- or polyalkylene glycol of molecular weight up to 1000 and a C 2-11 aliphatic monohydric alcohol. The polyester may be derived from succinic, glutaric and adipic acids and mixtures thereof, or phthalic anhydride; ethylene glycol or a polyethylene glycol; and n-butyl or isobutyl alcohol. The vinyl acetate may be copolymerized with ethylene or a maleate or acrylate. The polyester may be added to a stirred emulsion of the polymer. In examples polyvinyl acetate is plasticized with polyesters derived from phthalic anhydride, n-butanol and polyethylene glycol (200), ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol or triethylene glycol; and from mixtures of adipic, glutaric and succinic acids, ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol (200), 1,2-propylene glycol or 1,3-butylene glycol, and isobutanol; and from mixtures of such acids, ethylene glycol or 1,2-propylene glycol, and C 7-9 aliphatic alcohols.
|
