PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for providing number mobility in a mobile network wherein different systems are mixed is provided to use the mobile numbers used in the second generation mobile network in the third generation mobile network as they are. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for providing number mobility in a mobile network wherein different systems consists of the second generation mobile system(12-16), the third generation mobile system(22-26), a number translation module(18), and a gateway switching center(20). The number translation module(18) receives a call connection request message from the MSC(Mobile Switching Center)(14) of the second generation mobile system, converts a provider ID contained in the call connection request message into the provider ID of the third generation mobile system, and transmits the call connection request message to the gateway switching center(20). The gateway switching center(20) transfers the call connection request message to the MSC(22) of the third generation mobile system corresponding to the converted provider ID.
