PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct gradation of image data, taking the human's visual characteristics into consideration. SOLUTION: The method comprises a step S2 of generating a logarithmic scale equi-interval sampling historgram of image data, a step S3 of generating a logarithmic scale equi-interval sampling cumulative historgram, a step S4 of re-setting the sampling brightness along the abscissa with equal intervals on a real scale without changing the accumulation frequency value, thereby generating a LUT of the logarithmic scale equi-interval sampling cumulative histogram, and a step S5 of converting the image data using the LUT.
