<p>Solar heaters (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600) particularly useful for pasteurizing water including a transparent container (103, 203, 303, 403, 503, 603) such as a bag that contains at least one solar energy converting structure (115, 215, 315, 415, 615) having sufficient insulation (117, 217, 317, 417, 517, 617) to enable heating water for a period of time to a temperature of at least 60 °C for a period of about one hour, and preferably 70 °C for a period of about 6 minutes, for a time sufficient to achieve pasteurization. The solar heaters include additional additional features, such as, for example, a water pasteurization indicator (119, 219, 319, 419, 519). Methods for pasteurizing water employing solar heaters are described. Kits to convert any transparent watertight container (30) into a solar water heater are also described.</p> |
