PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer recording material capable of forming an image of a desired hue with high sensitivity. SOLUTION: The thermal transfer recording material 10 has a substrate 12 and a thermal transfer layer 16 which is provided on the substrate and contains a pigment covered with a polymer. The material 10 has preferably a photothermal conversion layer 14 between the substrate 10 and the thermal transfer layer 16.
