PURPOSE:To obtain the title hydrophilic weakly acidic cation-exchange resin having high mechanical strength, stable, and difficult to swell by opening the epoxy ring based on the glycidyl group of a cross-linked copolymer to modify the copolymer, and then carboxylating the copolymer. CONSTITUTION:The cross-linked copolymer having a glycidyl group is allowed to react with a compd. contg. a hydroxyl group to open the epoxy ring based on the glycidyl group in the cross-linked copolymer and to modify the copolymer. The glycidyl compd. is subjected to reaction with the copolymer, then a dibasic acid anhydride or halogenated acetic acid is allowed to act on the hydroxyl group in the copolymer, and the copolymer is carboxylated. The hydrophilic weakly acidic cation-exchange resin thus obtained has high strength, excellent chemical stability, and a low degree of swelling. |
