PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a hot dip plated steel sheet in which the generation of wrinkles in a plated layer of the hot dip plated steel sheet can be prevented, and which has excellent appearance and weldability, and is further suitable for the application of a coating material, and production equipment therefor. SOLUTION: A steel strip 13 is continuously charged to a plating tank 12 to be stored with molten metal 11, and molten metal 11 is deposited on the surface of the steel strip 13. After that, the steel strip 13 with the molten metal 11 deposited is taken up, and is sprayed with a wiping gas to control the deposition thickness of the molten metal 11. In this production method for a hot dip plated steel sheet, when the wiping gas is collided with the steel strip 13 with the molten metal 11 deposited, the value (Y) obtained by dividing the difference between the maximum value and the minimum value in the pressure of the collision gas to the steel strip 13 within a prescribed time by the density of the molten metal 11 and the value (X) obtained by dividing the surface tension of the molten metal 11 by the viscosity of the molten metal 11 satisfy the following inequality: Y<=-A×X+B.
