PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens in which the moving amount of a first group by zooming is reduced, thereby an entire length (a telephoto ratio) at a telephoto end is reduced and the telephoto ratio is made small. SOLUTION: This telephoto zoom lens has a first lens group L1 having positive refracting power, a second lens group L2 having negative refracting power, a third lens group L3 having negative refracting power, a fourth lens group L4 having positive refracting power, a fifth lens group L5 having negative refracting power, a sixth lens group L6 having positive refracting power and a seventh lens group L7 having negative refracting power in the order from an object side, and variable power is performed from a wide angle end to a telephoto end by moving the first group, the fourth group and the sixth group to the object side and also moving the second group to an image surface side, and the movement of an image surface accompanying the variable power is corrected by moving the seventh group.
