PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the base sequence of the whole length genomic RNA of papaya deformed leaf mosaic virus. SOLUTION: The whole length genomic RNA of the papaya deformed leaf mosaic virus is determined, and a method for diagnosing the infection with the papaya deformed leaf mosaic virus by using the above DNA, a method for producing a papaya deformed leaf mosaic virus-resistant plant and a method for expressing an extraneous protein in a plant body are also provided.
