COLOR IMAGE ARRAY SCANNER HAVING HIGH-RESOLUTION MONOCHROME MODE

PURPOSE: A color image array scanner having a high-resolution monochrome mode is provided to operate a solid array scanner for sensing color images and monochrome images in the high-resolution monochrome mode when black-and-white images are scanned. CONSTITUTION: A solid scanner for scanning color and monochrome images operates in a color mode for color scanning in the first pixel resolution and operates in a monochrome mode for monochrome scanning in the second pixel resolution. The solid scanner includes an array(12) of pixel photosensors, an addressing unit, and a scaler. Each of the pixel photosensors is the most sensitive to a predetermined light color and has optical intensity loss with respect to white light. The addressing unit addresses the pixel photosensors. The scaler scales each pixel signal to compensate for optical intensity loss of the addressed pixel photosensors.
