The ballast weight consists of a heavy block (8), e.g. of metal or concrete with an angled side opening (30) connected to an inner locking cavity (16). It is held at an angle to fit it over a horizontal scaffolding bar (9) and then released so that the bar sits in the cavity and the angled opening prevents the weight from coming off. The same weight can be fitted to a vertical bar where it joins a horizontal one.
