Pulp bleaching processes employing peroxides and/or oxygen are improved by u singstabilizing bleaching additives, preferably before t he application of the peroxide and/or oxygen. The bleaching additives contain at least one sulfamic acid or sulfamate such as sodium sulfamate and gluconic acid or a soluble gluconate, or alternatively an alkali metal borate.
