PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air battery with having superior storage characteristics and cycle characteristics. SOLUTION: This air battery is constituted by using an air electrode as a positive electrode, a hydrogen ion permselective membrane as an electrolyte, a hydrogen storage alloy as an active material in a negative electrode, and an amphoteric ion exchanger is interposed between hydrogen storage alloy particles of the negative electrode. As the hydrogen ion permselective membrane, a composite ion exchange membrane, prepared by forming an anion ion exchanger layer on one side or both sides of a cation exchange membrane, is preferable, and the amphoteric ion exchanger is preferable to be constituted with an amphoteric ion exchange resin, having a strong basic exchange group such as a quaternary ammonium group and a strong acidic exchange group, such as a sulfonic group as the ion exchange group, with pH value close to 7, or larger than 7. |
