PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary kiln capable of effecting stable control of combustion and efficiently melting a substance to be treated. SOLUTION: A rotary kiln 10 is disposed such that flame is radiated in a kiln body toward a discharge port 48 from and end part on the charge port 44 side, and provided with a first burner 46 where combustible gas from a gasifying furnace is used as fuel, and a second burner 50 disposed such that a flame is radiated in a reverse direction in the kiln body and radiated toward the lower region of the inner wall surface of the kiln body and kerosine or LPG is used as fuel. In this constitution, a flame from the first burner mainly raises temperature in the kiln body and dries and burns the substance to be treated and a flame by the second burner mainly melt the substance to be treated.
