PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detector for a combination battery (consisting of a plurality of unit cells) capable of surely detecting an abnormal cell. SOLUTION: A battery controller not shown in the figure inputs the voltage detection values of each cell of the combination battery, operates a first standard deviation for the voltages of all cells and operates a second standard deviation for the voltages except for a maximum value and a minimum value. The difference value between the first standard deviation and the second standard deviation is compared with a judgment reference value and the comparison is repeated by subtracting the maximum value and the minimum value from the voltage is turn, and operating the first standard deviation and he second standard deviation. Therefore, an abnormal cell is excluded in the process and the second standard deviation can be obtained without being affected by the abnormal cell. As the threshold for detecting the abnormal cell based on the second standard deviation is set, the threshold has a high accuracy and an abnormal cell can be surely detected.
