PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To absorb impact in motor starting and to improve startability in a starting device for an engine combining both of motor starting (self-starting motor) and recoil starter starting. SOLUTION: In the starting device for a small size engine combining the self-starting motor with the recoil starter, an recoil power spring, a reel and a drive cam are arranged on a starter shaft in series, and a power accumulation spring is installed inside of a final gear connected to a starter motor through a reduction gear. A tip cam part of the drive cam is engaged with a ratchet of a pulley fixed on a crankshaft of the engine to start the engine. The self- starter with a mechanism transmitting rotation force from the starter motor to the drive cam with an elastic action of the power accumulation spring is provided. In the case of using the recoiling starter, the drive cam is rotated by rotation force of the reel through the ratchet mechanism and the final gear and the drive cam are disconnected.
