<p>1. Apparatus for controlling the speed of a motor vehicle, equipped with manual actuating means, of the accelerator pedal type (2), adapted to be operated by a driver and connected by connecting means (L) to a member (3) for controlling the engine power, comprising : means (7) sensitive to a speed parameter of the vehicle and adapted to emit an effective speed signal ; comparator means (8) for comparing this signal with a reference signal corresponding to a given speed limit ; and control means (B) adapted to act on the engine power control member (3) in order to keep the vehicle speed at the given limit depending upon the result of the comparison carried out by the comparator means (8) when the control apparatus is engaged, said control means (B) also acting on the said connecting means (L) in such a manner that when the control apparatus is engaged the driver has to maintain the manual actuating means (2) in a given position, generally the maximum power end of travel abutment position, the complete arrangement being such that the driver can resume actuation of the engine in order to reduce the power by releasing the manual actuating means (2), characterised in that it comprises means (14) for defining a range of deflection (DELTA) of the manual actuation means (2) from the said given position (m), and means (15) for inhibiting the manual actuation means (2) and adapted to be brought into operation when : said manual actuation means are in the said range (DELTA), the control apparatus is engaged.</p> |
