PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the contact of a holding member and a can body when removing a holding member out of the can body after inserting the holding member into the can body and applying a prescribed treatment. SOLUTION: In the device for treating the outer surface of the can body 1, while arranging an opening end 50 of a can body 1 opposed to the tip side of an axial mandrel 6 traveling on a prescribed truck, the can body 1 and the mandrel 6 are moved in the central line direction so that the can body is fitted to and held by the mandrel 6. After that, the prescribed treatment is applied to the outer peripheral surface of the can body 1, then the can body 1 and the mandrel 6 are relatively moved in the axial direction to remove the can body out of the mandrel 6. A holder magnet table 44 for absorbing and holding the end 51 on the other side of the opening end 50 of the can body 1 is arranged opposed to the tip end 52 of the mandrel 6. The magnet table 44 is provided with a magnet 46 and a plate 47 matching the center line Q1 of the can body 1 and the center line B1 of the mandrel 6.
