PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head using a magneto-resistive element excellent in the reproduction sensitivity while being easy to manufacture with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The magnetic head is provided with the magneto-resistive element 110 for detecting the magnetic information recorded on a magnetic recording medium 10 and a 1st yoke 102, a 2nd yoke 103 which are arranged so as to form a magnetic circuit with the above magneto-resistive element while forming a reproduction gap confronted with the surface of the magnetic recording medium, then the 1st yoke 102 and the 2nd yoke 103 are respectively formed with front parts 102a, 103a arranged so as to lay over each other and rear parts 102b, 103b arranged keeping the distance for each other, and the magneto- resistance effect element 110 is disposed so as to make the rear part 102b of the 1st yoke and the rear part 103b of the 2nd yoke across over each other.
