PURPOSE:To decrease the time required for recording and to reduce the consumption of a recording medium by using a digital audio tape recorder (DAT) and specifying the location of recording and reproducing heads. CONSTITUTION:Reproducing heads A', B' are provided at a position where a part of a tape recorded by one of recording heads A, B passes by and other head comes. Since a track recorded by, e.g., the head A is erased partly by the recording of the head B and the substantial recording signal is reproduced and checked by the head A', the reproduced signal is not affected by the disturbance of the tape drive and the recording signal is checked accurately. Thus, the DAT is used smoothly as a data streamer and the consumption of the recording medium and the time required for the recording are decreased.
