PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for machining an edge allowing efficiently chamfering a work edge, in particular the edge along a thickness direction of a work. SOLUTION: Support shafts capable of rotating are mounted on first and second main spindles 13a, 13b for supporting a grinding wheel T by the support shafts. A predetermined braking power is always provided to the support shafts. When the edges C1, C2 along the thickness direction of the work W are chamfered, the grinding wheel T of each main spindle 13a, 13b is positioned facing each side face W1, W3 of the work W (Fig. 4 (c)) and then each side face W1, W3 is cut. During that time, a pressing force is provided to a face TA to be processed of the grinding wheel T on the basis of cutting and the grinding wheel T rotates around a shaft line of the support shaft against the braking force and moves from each side face W1, W3 side to a front end face W2 with forming an approximately arc-shaped moving locus (Fig. 4 (d)). As a result, each edge C1, C2 is chamfered.
