PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a small and convenient high efficiency phased array antenna having good cost performance in which the directivity of a beam can be controlled over a wide range without generating a grating lobe. SOLUTION: In a radiation slot plate 1 at the uppermost layer, three radiation slots 2, 3 and 4 are arranged, at a constant interval, in the x direction such that polarization takes place in the same direction. In an excitation slot plate 5 at the lowermost layer, a slot 6 for exciting the radiation slots 2 and 3 and a slot 7 for exciting the radiation slots 3 and 4 are arranged in the x direction. The excitation slots 6 and 7 are powered from triplet lines 8 and 9. The elements 2 and 4 at the opposite ends on the upper side are coupled at an appropriate degree of coupling with a part of electromagnetic wave radiated from a slot antenna element on the lower side. A central slot antenna element 3 on the upper side is coupled at an appropriate degree of coupling with a part of electromagnetic wave radiated from two slot antenna elements on the lower side and synthesized spatially.
