PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which can prevent interferences at the time of light irradiation even without enhancing an optical system accuracy in the light of the fact that it is impossible to apply light independently to each one dot without interferences by the optical system accuracy alone because images are to be formed more and more with a high density. SOLUTION: In the imaging apparatus including a latent image formation means for forming electrostatic latent images corresponding to image signals to an image carrier, there are set a plurality of reference positions for determining a light irradiation time corresponding to an individual pixel when the electrostatic latent images corresponding to image signals are to be formed. When image signals at the same horizontal scanning position of two adjacent horizontal scanning lines continue in a vertical scanning direction, the reference position for the image signal of the preceding horizontal scanning line of the two horizontal scanning lines is kept the same. If the image signals are not continuous, the reference position for the image signal of the preceding horizontal scanning line is made different.
