PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate dropout and chipping of carbide chips on a side opposite to a rotating direction of a chain, and to prevent abrasion of a bit holder. SOLUTION: There is provided a chain-saw-type excavator which is formed of a bit holder 7 fixed to an outside of an endlessly rotating chain 3 in a manner protruding from the same, a bit main body 8 having a recess 8a which sheathes the bit holder 7 with play in a chain 3-rotating direction, and the carbide chips 9A, 9B fixed to the tip of the bit main body 8 on a forward- rotating side and a backward-rotating side thereof. According to the excavator, the bit main body 8 is tiltably attached to the bit holder 7 to predetermined degrees by a shaft 10, and when the chain 3 is rotated in one direction, the bit main body 8 is tilted due to contact resistance with the ground, whereby the carbide chip on the rear side of the main body departs from the ground.
