The invention relates to a process for explosion welding thin metal sheets and plates in order to produce thin double metal or multilayer plated products. According to the invention, the process consists in initiating the process by means of a detonator for priming an explosive loading detonation, so as to provide the high velocity propelling of an assembly consisting of a mild carbon steel damping plate thicker than 1.5 mm and of an uptake plate, said assembly being deformed and colliding with a base plate, while the welding takes place. The initial distance between the parallel positioned plates is provided by introducing completely gasifiable spacers consisting of colloid powder granules. The process allows the welding of metal sheets and plates having thickness ranging from 0.1 to 1 mm.
