PURPOSE: An apparatus and a process for measuring the snowfall amount are provided to measure the instant snowfall amount correctly and quickly, and to measure the snowfall amount in the back regions to send it to the destination. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for measuring the snowfall amount comprises: a longitudinal support; a horizontal bar located at the top of the support; a laser distance sensor located at the bottom of the bar which can emit a laser downwardly to periodically measure the distance to the surface on which the laser is reflected; a controlling part which can control the operation of the laser distance sensor, receive the distance data from the laser distance sensor, calculate an imaginary snowfall amount based on the distance and select the minimum value as the optimum snowfall amount; a transmission part which can transmit the optimum snowfall amount; a snowfall information generating part spaced from the support which can receive the optimum snowfall amount to generate various snowfall information; and a modem for transmitting the snowfall information to the destination.
