The trunk lid (20), hinged by one end (21) to the vehicle body (10), has a space beneath it formed by two brackets (24, 28) for stowing a panel (12) such as a detachable roof panel. One of the brackets (28) is designed to interact via a lever (34) with a spring (38) which counter balances the weight of the lid when the panel is stowed beneath it. Without the stowed panel the bracket (28) does not make contact with the spring lever.
