PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can inexpensively realize a scan range setting function installed in a scanner main body, where a scan range can simply be set to start scanning, more than that of a conventional function. SOLUTION: LEDs are arranged in a scan button. The LED indication in a standby state is all turned off. Every time the scan button is operated, the LED display is changed. When a scan range is set, the scan button is operated for some seconds to start scanning. When the scan button is operated, the scanning is started within a set range. The LED indication is entirely turned on during the scanning. When the scanning is finished, the image reader returns again to the standby state.
