<p>An error diffusion processing used for binary or multinary reproduction in a system for recording/displaying a gradation image of gradation of several levels. The texture exhibited in the error diffusion processing is suppressed and the granularity of the image is minutely controlled. The accumulated error in the position of a pixel of interest is separated into first and second correction accumulated errors. The first correction accumulated error is added to a data level of the pixel of interest to create a correction level. The second correction accumulated error is added to a multinarization error which is the difference between the correction level and a multinary level of the correction level to calculate a correction multinarization error. An error allocation value corresponding to an unprocessed pixel near the pixel of interest is calculated from the correction multinarization error by using a predetermined allocation coefficient and added to the accumulated error in the position of the corresponding pixel, and thus the accumulated error is updated.</p> |
