The invention relates to an intake system for an internal combustion engine and to a method for operating said intake system that allow prevention of hydrocarbons from escaping from the intake system to the environment. To this end, the intake system is provided with a fuel vapor filter (19) that adsorbs hydrocarbons. Said fuel vapor filter (19) has a first opening (20) that is linked with a pure air conduit (14), and a second opening (21). The second opening (21) is correspondingly linked with the environment so that no substantial negative pressure can build up in the pure air conduit (14). The pure air conduit (14) can be tightly closed by a slide (18) so that the air expanding under the effect of heat does not escape to the environment before it has flown through the fuel vapor filter (19).
