PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an endoscope system having good operability for each bending direction and a bending performance suitable for an observation. SOLUTION: The endoscope system 1 comprises a motor driven unit 16 for operating bending of a bending part 12 of a slender inserting section 2a by towing or relaxing a bending wire 32 extended from the part 12 of the section 2a. The driven unit 16 has motor units 47 each for driving to bend the part 12 by a motor. The unit 47 has the two units in response to the bending direction of the part 12, one of which is a motor unit 47a for a vertical bending direction, and the other of which is a motor unit 47b for a lateral bending direction. The units 47a and 47b are set at their motor operating characteristics in response to the bending characteristics to the bending directions of the part 12.
