PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system which can perform sign authentication safely and its control method, a computer-readable memory, and a program. SOLUTION: A server 100 holds a dictionary 101 for authentication wherein writing data for authentication by users of clients 200 are registered and managed. Then writing data for authentication corresponding to the user of a client 200 are transmitted to the client 200. The client 200, on the other hand, inputs writing data of the user of the client through a coordinate input device 201. Then a sign authentication part 205 performs authentication for the server 100 by using the writing data for authentication received from the server 100 and the inputted writing data. Then an authentication result output part 206 sends the authentication result to the server 200.
