PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boom swing type hydraulic excavator capable of making a forward slewing radius to the end of an arm smaller. SOLUTION: The boom swing type hydraulic excavator is provided with a rotating upper structure 2 arranged revolvably in a traveling body 1, an operator cab 3 arranged in the structure 2, a boom 7 supported pivotally on the structure 2 so as to be capable of swinging and rising/falling, an arm 9 supported pivotally on the end of the boom 7 so as to be capable of rotation within a vertical surface, and a bucket 11 supported pivotally on the end of the arm 9 so as to be capable of rotation within the vertical surface. A swing center point, whereon the boom 7 swings, is provided on either of the right and left sides of the structure 2 in a view from a plane in order to be located in the side part of the operator cab 3 on the central side, in a width direction, of the structure 2.
