The roll nip (5) is opened by removing the press shoe (11) and the hot counter roll (3) from the other such that the jacket (15) is spaced from the press surface of press shoe (11). The roll jacket is tensioned over the press surface by applying force inside roll jacket so as to reduce height of the arched portion and ensures removal of the jacket from hot counter roll. An Independent claim is included for flexible jacket protection apparatus.
