PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom controlling method and a photographing device with a zoom function capable of realizing photography where a background can be also excellently photographed in a telephoto area without remarkably changing the structure of the photographing device. SOLUTION: In this method, the photographing device is controlled to perform variable power processing of a specified photographic magnification previously set such as the maximum photographic magnification of the electronic zoom by preferentially performing variable power by electronic zoom rather than optical zoom.
