A method of producing a coated optical fiber comprising the first step of drawing an optical fiber glass preform to obtain glass optical fiber, the second step of forming a two-layer coating on the glass optical fiber, and the third step of imparting twist to the glass optical fiber using a rocking guide roller, wherein tension T of the glass optical fiber of the optical fiber glass preform in the first step is at least 2.2 (N/fiber), T/R is 28-100 when the rocking guide roller's body radius in the third step is R (m), and the rocking guide roller's rocking rotation speed is 0.33-3.33 (s<-1>), whereby positively reducing polarization mode dispersion (PMD value) in the obtained coated optical fiber.
