A fluorite type composite oxide which is represented by Ce1-xRxO2- delta wherein R represents at least two elements selected from the lanthanoids being inclusive of Y and Sc and exclusive of Ce and Pm, 0.4 </= x </= 0.5, and 0.2 </= delta </= 0.25. The fluorite type composite oxide can be used as a material of an electrolyte which can suppress or prevent the decrease of the transference number of an oxide ion and thus exhibits excellent electroconductivity for an oxide ion, even in a reducing atmosphere at about 1000 DEG C. |
