PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material which is excellent in the ability to decompose pollutants comprising many types of organic substances, is highly hydrophilic, and exhibits a photocatalytic effect. SOLUTION: A photocatalyst material prepared by forming a composite film comprising titanium dioxide and palladium on the surface of a substrate by vacuum evaporation. The palladium content of the film is 3.0-80 mass %. The film is prepared by simultaneously evaporating titanium dioxide and palladium by ion plating.
