PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a collision sound between an opener tip part and an abutment part of an inner shuttle of a horizontal shuttle and to use a general-purpose horizontal shuttle for a lock stitch sewing machine. SOLUTION: This opener device for the horizontal shuttle is provided with a cam shaft 8 rotated at a rotation speed 1/2 of that of a shuttle shaft 2 via a speed reducer, an eccentric cam 10 provided in the upper end of the cam shaft, an opener guide arm 11 having its one end part rotatably fitted to the eccentric cam, an opener guide link having its base end part rotatably supported to a link shaft fitted to a shuttle shaft base and its tip part connected to the other end part of the opener guide arm, and an opener fixed to the other end part of the opener guide arm. The tip part 6a of the opener operating to the abutment part of the inner shuttle 4 makes one elliptic motion having a long diameter in the direction approximately along the abutment part of the inner shuttle about the same direction to the rotation direction of the outer shuttle 3 relative to the two rotations of the outer shuttle.
