PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit, a print controller, an image processing method, and a recording medium that can quickly convert image data while keeping the image quality. SOLUTION: Each of blocks is formed by collecting a prescribed number of adjacent pixels. In determining presence/absence of dot formation, the gradation of pixels in a target block is detected and whether or not each target block satisfies a prescribed processing condition is decided based on the magnitude correlation of the detected gradations. When each target block satisfies the processing condition, the presence/absence of dot formation of the target blocks is determined in the unit of blocks. Thus, quick determination is attained. When a target block does not satisfy the processing condition, the presence/ absence of dot formation of the target block is determined by each pixel. Thus, deteriorated image quality can be avoided. Discriminating each target pixel by a proper method depending on whether or not the target pixel satisfies the processing condition can quickly convert image data into data in an expression form depending on the presence/absence of dot formation while keeping the image quality.
