<p>A spreader roll (10) that is useful to spread a slit web (14) into a plurality of split webs (14a) for rewinding or at numerous other critical processes positions on web machines and related finishing and converting equipment. The speader roll (10) includes a bowable shaft (20) and a plurality of interconnected cylinder elements (24) mounted for rotation about the shaft (20). The cylinder elements (24) each include a cylindrical outer surface (28) and opposite end portions (30a, 30b) having nonlinear profiles (30) to thereby provide intermittent support of the split webs as they pass over the spreader roll.</p> |
