St. John's wort extracts having reduced chlorophyll and proanthocyanidin contents, useful as topical medicaments, e.g. for treating stomatitis, acne, viral infections or psoriasis

Extracts (I) of Hypericum perforatum (St. John's wort) having reduced contents of chlorophyll and proanthocyanidins are new. Independent claims are included for: (1) the preparation of (I), by extracting dried St. John's wort herb with a mixture of acetone and ethanol, then removing green pigments by filtration via an adsorbent; and (2) pharmaceutical compositions comprising (I) and conventional pharmaceutical auxiliaries for topical administration.
