PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce carbon fibers excellent in opening properties, free from inducing heat deterioration and contamination of a fiber reinforced resin when using them at a high temperature or using them for electronic parts, suitable as a reinforcing material for the fiber reinforced resin. SOLUTION: This processing method for carbon fibers can remove a sizing agent in a high ratio by processing the carbon fibers adhering the sizing agent in a supercritical or a subcritical fluid. Water is preferred as the fluid.
