The clamping device has an outer side first clamping jaw(16) rigidly installed on the frame(14), and an inner side second jaw(18) mounted to slide on a guide profile(22) located below the roof rafter and connected to the frame. A spindle(20) is installed parallel to and below the guide profile and meshes with a nut element(46) rigidly connected to the second clamping jaw. The spindle on the roof outer side is rigidly connected to a rotatable component(24) mounted on the frame and with a common axis(26) of rotation manually rotatable from the upper side of the roof. An Independent claim is included for a verge safety railing with a clamping device on each post(40).
