PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display wherein the display changes due to the temperature change of a panel are prevented and satisfactory display quality can be obtained at any temperature in the operating range, in the active- matrix driven type liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 10 has a liquid crystal display panel 4 wherein a liquid crystal is interposed between a pair of substrates, a temperature detecting device 3 from detecting the temperature of the liquid crystal display panel 4 and a voltage-changing circuit 5 for applying the drive voltage to the liquid crystal display panel 4. The liquid crystal display panel 4 has a thin-film transistor(TFT) and electrical characteristics of a TFT element are changed by its temperature change. The temperature detecting device 3 detects the temperature of the liquid crystal display panel 4, and the vulgate changing circuit 5 changes the voltage of the signal for driving the liquid crystal display panel 4, according to the temperature detected by the temperature detecting device 3 and performs the temperature compensation of the TFT element.
