PURPOSE: A method for inputting characters in a mobile terminal is provided to improve the convenience and time reduction of letter combination by selectively and separately allocating basic letters, composed of combinations of basic consonants and basic vowels, in an array of keys in a mobile terminal and creating characters using one or more of the basic letters. CONSTITUTION: A system for inputting characters in a mobile terminal is composed of a keypad part(1), a memory part(3), a central control part(5), and a display part(7). The keypad part(1) comprises input keys generating relevant character input signals according to a user's push operations and function keys generating relevant character conversion signals according to the user's push operations. The memory part(3) stores consonants and vowels related to the Hangul characters allocated to the keypad part(1). The central control part(5) appoints relevant character data stored in the memory part(3) according to a character input signal or a character conversion signal supplied from the keypad part(1) and outputs an associated control signal. The display part(7), operated by a character conversion control signal outputted from the central control part(5), displays a character corresponding to a relevant input key. Also the display part(7), operated by a character input control signal outputted from the central control part(5), displays an associated character.
