PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an armature of superior centrifugal strength and insulation performance by reducing the quantity of resin 15 consumed and eliminating a process to remove the resin 15. SOLUTION: The armature is formed by installing two vertically arranged layers of coils, a lower layer coil and an upper layer coil, in each slot 10 in an armature core 7. Of the straight portions of the upper layer coils installed in the slots 10, portions axially protruded from the end face of the armature core 7 are designated as a coil end portion 12c. Spaces, formed between the end face of the armature core 7 and an outer insulator 14, between the coil end portions 12c adjoining in the circumferential direction, are filled with liquid resin 15, and a cylindrical body 16 (nonmagnetic material) is fitted onto the periphery of the coil end portions 12c. Thus brush chippings are prevented from entering into the above spaces, and a creepage distance for insulation is provided between the armature core 7 and the lower layer coil and upper layer coil.
